Casting for all roles is open to anyone within the appropriate age range of the character (unless otherwise stated). Since this is a modern short film adaptation of an Indian Hindu epic, please note ethnicity requirements for each role available.
Since, far too often, actors are left asking innumerable questions about a production, we have designed this notice to give you all of the details upfront so you can make an informed decision before submitting.
We will answer every submission we receive. While we are partnering with Joya Joseph to help cast her project, this is a pillar of our company (Skyphire Entertainment) and something we believe very strongly about: everyone deserves a response and basic human respect. We do not believe in the 'turnstile' nature of casting. If you took the time to submit, we will take the time to respond.

ORIGINS - THE EPIC
The Indian Hindu epic Ramayana narrates the life of Rama, a legendary prince in the kingdom of Kosala. The story follows his exile to the forest urged by his father King, on the request of Rama's stepmother; his travels across forests in India with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, the kidnapping of Sita, and Rama's eventual return to be crowned king amidst jubilation and celebration.
This story is an important part of Hindu culture and is widely known throughout South Asia and the world at large.
A MODERN TALE
This untitled short film follows Sita as she wrestles with a traumatic life event. In trying to deal and cope with her situation, a therapist walks her through her painful ordeal and fears of being continually shamed for something she may or may not have done.
In the end, Sita leaves with more questions than answers, and will leave audiences with their own topics of discussion after viewing.
NOTE FROM JOYA
Hello all! A little about why I wrote this story: I wanted to write about characters I grew up with, but always felt were wronged. I hardly ever see projects that focus on woman of South Asian descent, especially one who processes extreme trauma on screen.
I wanted to start a conversation about shame culture and the part we all tend to play in it, especially in the South Asian community - but also in the world at large.

All roles available are unpaid in terms of real-money compensation.

All available cast roles also include other forms of compensation, including demo reel material of their work, production stills (with a 'Grant of Use' document), and a non-public digital copy of the completed pilot. IMDb credit will be provided for all roles as well.
LODGING & TRANSPORT
Lodging/Travel
Unfortunately, lodging, travel, and transport pay are not available for this project.
CONTRACTS
Contracts
All cast must sign an Actor Release Agreement and Contract (ARAC) in order to participate in this production. These are fully-binding agreements that guarantee delivery of promised items, as well as to serve to protect the production in case of a breach. Contracts will include language that gives actors and the production company leeway when it comes to the pandemic/COVID-19 or any other instance out of yours and our control.

Filming will take place in the greater Raleigh, NC area. Specific location details will be shared once confirmed.
FILMING DATES
Filming Dates
The current timeframe/window for filming is late March to mid-April of this year. Filming will take approximately two days and will be done over a weekend period. As soon as exact information is known, all prospective applicants will be informed.
UNION STATUS
Union Status
This short film is being shot as a non-union production. This means any non-union, SAG-AFTRA-E, and/or FiCore actors are welcome to submit for any role.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS and VACCINATIONS
COVID-19
All members of the production (cast and crew) must provide proof of vaccination. Testing will not be required. Masks may be required when not actively filming, eating, or drinking - this will be determined closer to the filming dates.
